Titanic will be re-released in theaters on its 25th anniversary

Titanic is perhaps the most successful movie of all time. The beloved disaster movie had grossed $220.2 crores worldwide when it was first released in 1997. We couldn’t believe that 25 years have passed since lovers Rose Dewitt Bukater and Jack Dawson, played respectively by Kate Winslet, and Leonardo DiCaprio. They were first introduced to the world.

However, moviegoers can revel in Jack and Rose’s return to the big screens once again. The epic romantic disaster movie returns to theaters to mark its 25th anniversary. To celebrate the silver anniversary of the blockbuster, Titanic has been digitally remastered and will be shown in 3D 4K HDR with a high frame rate. Titanic will be re-released in select theaters on February 10.

Director James Cameron won three Academy Awards for the film, including Best Director, Best Picture and Best Editing for Titanic. What’s more, the blockbuster won 11 Oscars in total, though Kate missed out on Best Actress and Leo wasn’t nominated at all. The film was hugely successful when a 3D Titanic was released in theaters in 2012. The film is three hours and 15 minutes long and has grossed over $2.2 billion worldwide.

Starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio as members of different social classes who fall in love aboard the ship during its ill-fated maiden voyage, Titanic incorporates both historical and fictional aspects. The film is based on accounts of the sinking of the RMS Titanic. The film also stars Billy Zane, Kathy Bates, Frances Fisher, Gloria Stuart, Bernard Hill, Jonathan Hyde, Victor Garber, and Bill Paxton.

Meanwhile, another of James Cameron’s films, Avatar, was re-released in theaters ahead of its sequel’s release. However, when Avatar Remastered was re-released in September ahead of Avatar: The Way of Water, it opened at number one at the box office, grossing $30 in ticket sales in its opening weekend. Kate Winslet teamed up once again with director James Cameron for The Way of Water. Kate played Ronal, the matriarchal leader of the oceanic Pandora tribe, the Metkayina in the Avatar sequel.
