Tonight’s installment of NXT saw Nikkita Lyons and Zoey Stark become the next challengers for champions Kayden Carter and Katana Chance.

Tonight’s episode of NXT was anticipated; After WWE revealed the new NXT logo, fans were waiting to see if the brand would return to its black and gold era of independent-style matches and sports-based programming. Judging by tonight’s episode, that’s probably not the case. Aside from a change in graphics and a color scheme for the ring, not much has changed in NXT.

New challengers emerge for Kayden Carter and Katana Chance

Kayden and Katana had long needed a championship reign. They have been a team unit for years and have never received a proper boost despite their athleticism and cohesiveness. This changed for them last August when Katana and Kayden won the vacant NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship in a Gauntlet Match.

Tonight’s episode was originally scheduled to feature a threesome match between Alba Fyre, Stark and Lyons and Toxic Attraction. However, Alba Fyre kidnapped Mandy Rose in the infamous NXT parking lot before she even started her match. Instead, NXT held a tag team match between the two current members of Toxic Attraction (Gigi Dolin and Jacey Jayne) and Stark/Lyons. Without Mandy Rose at ringside to interfere, Stark and Lyons were able to come out with the victory..

Zoey Stark is a former NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion alongside Io Sky, while Nikkita Lyons has never held a title in WWE. At the time of writing, no date has been set for Stark and Lyons’ title fight.
