Rihanna was criticized on Twitter by advocacy group Justice for Myanmar for donning a $1 million Burmese ruby ring. The beautiful stones and rubies found in Myanmar are famous throughout the world. However, their trade also generates revenue for the nation’s military junta government, which commits crimes against its ordinary citizens.
The activist group urged Rihanna to call for a ban on these Myanmar jewelry. The tweet said; @rihanna [should] stand with him [people] from #Myanmar and supporting a gem ban, after wearing a $1 million Burmese ruby ring in #SuperBowl The ring is from Bayco Jewels of New York, which has at least 9 articles on its site depicting the atrocities of the Myanmar Gem Fund Board. Ban trade!”
The group also posted another tweet about the cost of Rihanna’s ring, which costs $1 million. According to media reports, Rihanna’s ring, valued at $1 million, featured “a rare 19.47 carat natural sugarloaf cabochon Burma ruby and 5.66 carats of round brilliant colorless diamonds.” and trillion size set in platinum and 18-carat yellow gold. ”
Netizens are currently criticizing the Diamonds vocalist who wears the Burmese ruby ring that was mined in Myanmar. According to the activist group, the junta in #Myanmar receives funding through ruby mining.
