Wednesday star Jenna Ortega wants to be a part of the Tim Burton family again. The actor is circling for a role in Beetlejuice 2, multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. Warner Bros., which is behind the feature, could not be reached for comment. Someone on Jenna Ortega’s team also did not respond to requests for comment. The news comes as Ortega hits theaters with Scream VI, which could land the biggest opening in the franchise’s more than 25-year history.
Tim Burton, who directed the 1988 film starring Michael Keaton, is expected to direct and Keaton will also return, sources say. The production is scheduled to shoot in London in late May or early June, but no budget has been set, which has led to back and forth. If a deal is reached, sources say Ortega would play the daughter of Lydia, the character played by Winona Ryder in the original.

Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Jeffrey Jordan and Catherine O’Hara also starred in the original film, which grossed $80 million on a $15 million budget and won an Academy Award for Best Makeup at the 1989 Academy Awards. The sequel it’s gone through several iterations over the years, with multiple writers coming and going and Burton himself speaking publicly of his own involvement.
Ortega, who most recently starred in Netflix’s Wednesday, also directed by Burton, said he used to have “constant dreams” of Beetlejuice when he was younger. The actress began her career with roles like Young Jane on The CW’s Jane the Virgin, followed by roles on You and Yes Day.

Before Wednesday’s debut, Ortega told The Hollywood Reporter about working with Burton: “It’s been a pretty crazy experience. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to work with a legendary director who happens to be one of the sweetest directors I’ve ever worked with and also the most detail-oriented.” Jenna Ortega is set to host this Saturday Night Live in addition to Scream VI.
