After the huge success of the sci-fi horror movie, the sequel to M3GAN has been confirmed. Violet McGraw, who played an orphaned girl, Cady, took to her social media and confirmed the M3GAN sequel. The actress confirmed that she will reprise the role of her, writing: ‘It’s happening! @meetm3gan 2.0!’
Screenwriter Akela Cooper also shared her excitement for the sequel. She took to her social media, saying, “So happy it’s finally out,” adding, “M3gan will see you all again in 2025. In the meantime, enjoy the peace and quiet.”
Meanwhile, in an earlier interview, producer Jason Blum said: “After seeing the movie for the first time, we had a feeling that a sequel could really work.” He added: “So, we broke our cardinal rule and started talking about a sequel before the movie was released. I felt so optimistic that we started entertaining a sequel earlier than we usually do.”
The sequel announcement came after the horror film raked in $95.3 million at the worldwide box office on a $12 million budget. Additionally, the film earned a ‘new certified’ 95% critical approval rating, from 255 reviews, on Rotten Tomatoes. The film follows the artificially intelligent doll of the same name who develops self-awareness and becomes hostile towards anyone who stands between her and her human companion. Meanwhile, plot details for the upcoming sequel have been kept under wraps.
The upcoming sequel titled M3GAN 2.0 will see the return of the killer Model 3 Generative Android, as well as its creator, played by Allison Williams, and her niece, aka M3gan’s former best friend, played by Violet McGraw. Original screenwriter Akela Cooper also returns, along with producers James Wan and Jason Blum. However, Gerard Johnstone, who directed the first film, did not confirm whether or not he will return. Plot details remain scant.
M3GAN 2 is scheduled to be released in theaters on January 17, 2025.
